At the end of last summer, we asked our summer staff to write a job description for new counselors coming in, giving them an idea of what to expect during their time at Camp Lenox
Your job will involve being there for your kids. Anything they need or have a problem with is something you need to take care of. Relationships that come from this are irreplaceable. You will in part be in charge of getting kids up and putting them to bed. Getting them to their activities and participating in these activities as well. You are there for the kids. If you put in the time and effort and focus on why you are really there, which is for the kids, this could be the most rewarding summer of your life.

Being a camp counselor is a 24/7 job, you have to be ready at any moment to be a father a mentor a best friend, you have to be ready at any moment to go from teaching a camper how to sail then 5 minutes later be a basketball coach or referee then getting everyone ready for dinner. It is one of the most rewarding "jobs" you will ever have in your life and the memories you have of camp will last a lifetime.

Being a counselor at Camp Lenox is not something you can ever really understand from a job description. As a counselor, you will transform from just another smart, athletic, motivated young person into a teacher, a mentor, a coach, and a best friend without even realizing it. If you become a member of the Camp Lenox family, you will be living and working with a group of 8 to 16 energetic, fun, bright kids. These kids will become your life for 7 weeks, as you work with them, teaching them skills in your specific activity area, as well as helping them grow in social, mental, and physical ways. At Camp Lenox, your summer will be made up of carefully tailored day-to-day programs, mixed in with special programming days.

Hello,
If you are reading this then you are about to experience something few people in the world have every done. You are about to be the most important person in someone's life. Got what it takes? The thought alone of having that much influence over an individual should cut through your mind like a thousand knifes. You mission is to make sure from the first to the last day that this individual sees you as the most important thing in their life. Prepare to be pushed and mentally exhausted. Prepare to be a mentor/tutor/parent. Prepare to have a blast and know that you have done something that no amount of money could ever buy for this individual. You will have given them a figure which they will not only remember for the rest of their life, but will brag about knowing you to every single person in their life. Brace Yourself.

To be a positive role model: this includes following the rules, respecting everyone, attending all activities and being on time, being enthusiastic and participating during these activities, treating all as equals, having camp spirit, trying your hardest, and being aware of everything going on around you. The campers will mimic your every move, and by simply being a positive role model, they'll not only have a great summer, but they'll learn new things that'll help them grow and mature in just two short months.

Working with great people, being active, experiencing new things, constant smiles and laughing...and the amazing kids. I didn't expect to feel so strongly!! Playing your favourite sports, hanging out with COOL kids and making new, lifelong friendships – sounds like the best summer to me!

I would write that it is the best job that any person could ever have.
